I have always had an interest in dog sledding. I remember being a child watching Balto and Iron Will, thinking how great it would be to have that many dogs, and enjoy the outdoors with them.
In 1999, when I was ten my grandma took me to my first race, and I was hooked. That Christmas my grandparents bought me a sled and I started training my Akita how to be a sled dog. Luckily I met Dave and Terry Campbell of Charlyn Siberian Huskies and they kindly guided me through the process of building my team. In 2002 I got my first Siberian Husky, Comet. Then the following year I got another, Silver. I helped the Campbells train their dogs and in return I used two of their dogs along with my two and participated in 4 dog races.
I have spent 12 years training sled dogs, and not a day goes by that I am not thankful for my dogs. I love watching them grow stronger and more confident each training season. I came from a very abusive house growing up, and my huskies were and have been my therapy. I think everyone could use a sled dog in their life.
